Funding Mental Health Counseling for Baldwin County Students
In partnership with AltaPointe Health, a behavioral Health leader serving Mobile and Baldwin County, The Edward Garrison Childress Foundation has provided funding for 150+ hours of mental health counseling and intervention for students throughout Baldwin County. Working with AltaPointe’s established partnerships with Baldwin County Schools, EGC comes along side families who cannot afford or do not have insurance to cover mental health services.
The Edward Garrison Childress Memorial Scholarship
The Edward Garrison Childress Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Garrison’s life and to impact a senior student-athlete each year at Fairhope High School. As we seek to raise enough funding to endow the scholarship with the South Alabama Community Foundation, a portion of the funds raised each year will be given to the scholarship fund. We will begin distributing funding in the spring of 2024.

Ongoing Sponsorship of the Out of Darkness Walks in South Alabama and Nationally
We believe that ongoing research and education will help reduce the stigma and occurrence of suicide. The Out of Darkness Walk is a fundraiser and awareness-raiser for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The EGC Foundation is proud to sponsor the South Alabama Out of Darkness Walk in Daphne each year and was proud to send a team to the National Out of Darkness Overnight Walk in New York City in Summer 2025.
