



The Edward Garrison Childress Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family of Garrison to provide financial aid to a high school graduating senior. Before his death, Garrison Childress played baseball and football at Fairhope High School. Funny, gregarious and caring, Garrison was the epitome of a southern gentleman and a friend to all. Therefore, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- A graduating student at Fairhope High School,
- Participation in high school in any athletic endeavor as a player, manager, trainer or cheerleader,
- An overall acceptable grade point average,
- Has been accepted to a institution of higher learning (4-year, 2-year and trade school included) beyond high school,
- Exhibits the character traits in life which were so prevalent in the life of Garrison Childress e.g. a caring person, character above reproach and unwavering loyalty to friends,
- Completion of all requirements in the attached application.
The selection process is as follows:
- Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2025
- A committee appointed by the Edward Garrison Childress Foundation will review all applicants and make the final selection based upon information provided by the applicant, ie application, resume and brief essay.
- Financial need will be a consideration but not a requirement.
The Edward Garrison Childress Foundation will continue the scholarship for the length of time as determined by the members of the foundation.
